Women's Tennis Team Comes Up Short at MAC Individual Tournament

KING'S WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM ELIMINATED FROM MAC INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
 
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College women's tennis team failed to advance anyone past the quarterfinal round as all entries in both singles and doubles were eliminated on the first day of the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships Saturday at Kirby Park.

At number-two singles, King's senior Lauren Breen dropped her opening round match to Allison Verdic by a 6-2, 7-5 score.
 
At third singles, Lady Monarch senior Rachel Hoffnagel won their opening round contest with a 6-3, 1-6, 13-11 decision over Linda Fogg of Lycoming. She fell in the quarterfinals, however to Wilkes' Allison Kristofco 6-1, 6-1.

In the number-four singles slot, King's senior Maria Cometa fell to Tam Lobb of Lebanon Valley by a 6-4, 6-1 count.

At fifth singles, King's junior Diana Darby received a first-round bye, but was then eliminated in the quarterfinals by a 6-1, 6-2 verdict to Cassie Foy of Misericordia.
 
In the number-six singles flight, King's senior Jen Bader received a first-round bye, but was then eliminated by Alyssa Neill of Elizabethtown, 6-3, 3-6, 10-3.

In doubles, King's number-one team of Breen and Diana Darby received a first-round bye before earning a 8-4 victory over Megan Gillespie and Beth Osipowicz of Arcadia. The Lady Monarch duo was then ousted 8-4 by the Elizabethtown College entry of Alena Marani and Madison Pipkin.
 
At number-two doubles, King's Hoffnagle and Cometa received a first-round bye before falling in the quarterfinals to Lobb and Lauren Fulmer of Lebanon Valley 9-7.

In the third singles flight, King's team of Bader and Molino fell in the opening round to Foy and Lauren Verret of Misericordia by an 8-4 margin.

The Lady Monarchs will now be idle until March when the spring season resumes as the team attempts to qualify for the MAC Team Tournament.
