KING'S SOFTBALL DROPS PAIR AT SALISBURY TOURNEY
SALISBURY, MD – The King's College softball team dropped a pair of closely contested games on the final day of the Sea Gull; Invitational Saturday at Salisbury University. King's fell to Denison University 10-7 before dropping a 2-1 heartbreaker to host Salisbury, the 21st ranked team nationally in Division III.
In the opener Meaghan Galvin was 2-for-4 with four RBI while Samantha Hornberger went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Kailtin Siegfried finished a perfect 3-for-3. Lindsey Hoerner, Christie Parfitt, and Annie Erndl each added one base hit. Erndl took the complete-game loss, allowing eight earned runs in the contest.
In the second game, King's scored the first run of the contest in the fifth inning when Gretchen Tholen singled and moved to second on a bunt by Katie Fry. Siegfried then singled to left field to bring home Tholen, putting the Lady Monarchs on top.
Salisbury, however, countered in the sixth inning when Jen Cahall delivered a one-out double and scored on a single from Michelle Garvhadl. After a bunt moved Garvhadl to second base, Amanda DeMoine singled up the middle to drive in what proved to be the winning run.
Tholen paced King's five-hit offense with two base hits while Galvin, Hoerner, and Siegfried all added one base hit. Hoerner was the hard-luck loser in the circle, allowing two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
King's returns to action Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. with a doubleheader at Keystone College.
