Softball Defeats Keystone 6-3 in Six Innings, Second Game Rained out and Resheduled for Wednesday

KING'S SOFTBALL DEFEATS KEYSTONE COLLEGE WITH SECOND GAME POSTPONED FOR MARCH 24

 

LAPLUME – The King's College softball team was registered a 7-3 victory over Keystone College in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader Tuesday in LaPlume. The game was halted after six inning sue to rain, which resulted in the postponement of the second contest.

 

Keystone opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning starting on a walk by Samantha Hartman before Tara Diesel singled. Lori-Ann Marino would drive in the run with a single to second base.

 

The Lady Monarchs would answer with a seven runs in the top of the third innings.  Rachel Zinni started the onslaught with a single, followed by a Meaghan Galvin base hit to center field Both runners would later advance a base on a passed ball before back-to-back singles by Samantha Hornberger and Kaitlin Siegfried gave King's a 2-1 lead.  Gretchen Tholen would later drive in two runs with a triple to right field, and would also score in the inning on a Keystone error.

Katie Butzer would get the inning going for the Giants as she reached first on a King's error. Abby Cohen singled to left field setting up runners on first and second. Hartman would reach on another Lady Monarch fielding error, the play would also result in Butzer scoring. Heather Trudgeon would later force a bases-loaded walk to plate Cohen for the last run in the inning.

 

Galvin would finish the game 1-for-2 with one runs. Gretchen Tholen was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Samantha Hornberger finished 1-for-3 with one RBI, while Siegfried was also 1-for-3 with one RBI. In the circle, Lindsey Hoerner picked up the win, going five innings and allowing one earned run on six hits with seven strikeouts.

 

Game two of the double header is now slated for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Betzler Fields
