KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS BAPTIST BIBLE
WILKES-BARRE – The King's College softball team posted a doubleheader sweep over visiting Baptist Bible College Tuesday at the Betzler Athletic Complex.
King's won the first game 6-0 before taking the nightcap 10-5. With the sweep, King's improved to 14-12 on the year while Baptist Bible slipped to 14-14.
In game one, King's pitcher Lindsey Hoerner tossed a five-hitter and struck out 10 batters in the game. Kayla Rutkoski topped the Lady Monarch hitters with a 3-for-3 showing, including a RBI double. Katie Fry was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, including a solo home run over the left field fence in the second inning. Hoerner was 1-for-3 with two RBI while Samantha Hornberger was also 1-for-3 with a RBI. Meaghan Galvin finished 1-for-4 and scored one run.
Stephanie Kreiser and Karin Mowry had two hits each for Baptist Bible
In the second game, King's scored five runs in the first inning, then added three more in the second to build an 8-0 lead. The Lady Monarchs banged out 14 hits in the game, led by Fry who was 3-for-3 with two runs and a RBI double. Hornberger was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI while Hoerner finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Annie Erndl and Stephanie Wingerter were both 2-for-4 with a RBI while Cathleen Traino knocked in one run.
Erndl picked up the pitching win, allowing four earned runs on nine hits while striking out four batters.
Mowry led BBC by going 3-for-4 with a RBI while Katelin Broughton and Danielle Cummings added two hits each.
King's returns to action Wednesday with a 3:00 p.m. matchup with traditional national power Ithaca College at 3:00 p.m. at the Betzler Complex.
