King's Women's Tennis Hosting Misericordia Tuesday in Freedom Conference Tournament Semi-Finals

KING'S WOMEN'S TENNIS HOSTING MISERICORDIA IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE SEMI-FINALS TUESDAY

 

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College and Misericordia University women's tennis teams will look to play for a league championship when the two teams face-off in the Freedom Conference Team Tournament Semi-final round Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Kirby Park.

 

Second-seeded King's enters the post-season with a 11-8 overall record and a 5-1 Freedom Conference record. Misericordia, meanwhile, is 9-7 overall and 4-2 in league play. The teams last met way back on September 29 with King's pulling out a 5-4 victory. With the post-season team tournament played during the second semester, the teams have played a number of non-conference matches to prepare for the event.

 

The winner will advance to meet the victor of the other semi-final  matchup between top-seeded Wilkes University and fourth-seeded Manhattanville College on Saturday at a time to be announced.

 

King's is paced by junior Lauren Breen who owns a team-best 12-7 record playing number-three singles. Junior Jillian Tallarico is 11-12 in the number-one spot while Rachel Hoffnagel is 8-7 in the fourth flight. Diana Darby is 5-2 at sixth singles.  In doubles, Lauren Breen and Christy Rossowski are 9-4 while Tallarico and Darby are 9-10. Courtnay Wilson and Maria Cometa have tallied a 7-5 ledger.

 

For Misericordia, Abby Searfoss is 12-6 at number-one singles. Ellyn Wingert is 9-7 in the sixth flight while Courtney Otto is 9-10 in number-four singles.   In doubles, Maura Haupt and Otto are 11-5 while  Searfoss and Ashley Mangabang are 11-7. Lauren Verret and Jen Spott are 3-6.
