KING'S SOFTBALL SET TO DEFEND THE FREEDOM CONFERENCE ON FRIDAY, VIEW LIVESTATS

DOYLESTOWN -- The second-seeded King's College softball team will look to earn a berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament when the Lady Monarchs begin defense of its Freedom Conference championship Friday in Doylestown at Delaware Valley College.  King's will be in search of its ninth conference championship since 2000.

DeSales University, Manhattanville College and Misericordia University also join the field of four teams who will play in a double-elimination format over two days to determine the conference champion. The event begins Friday at 11:00 a.m. with top-seeded DeSales taking on fourth-seeded Misericordia University. The second-seeded Lady Monarchs will then face third-seeded Manhattanville in the second game at 1:00 p.m.  The winners of the first two games will play again at 3:00 p.m.  The losers of the the opening two contests will play Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

The Lady Monarchs enter with a 19-15 overall record and a 9-5 league mark after picking up a doubleheader split with Manhattanville on Saturday. Senior shortstop Meaghan Galvin leads the team with a .397 (46-116) average with six doubles, one triple, one home run and 21 RBI. Senior pitcher/designated player Lindsey Hoerner follows at .387 (36-93) with 11 doubles, two triples three home runs and 23 RBI. Sophomore outfielder Kaitlin Siegfried bats .305 (32-105) with five doubles, two home runs, one triple and 23 RBI. Junior third-baseman Gretchen Tholen hits .301 (31-103) with six doubles, five triples and 17 RBI. Senior first-baseman Katie Fry stands at .297 (27-91) with six doubles, one home run and 19 RBI. Senior catcher Christie Parfitt checks in at .282 (24-85) with four doubles and 14 RBI.

In the circle, Hoerner owns a 13-8 record with a 2.70 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 135 innings. Freshman pitcher Annie Erndl is 6-7 with 54 strikeouts in 83 innings.

Number-three seeded Manhattanville has a 18-17-1 overall record and a 9-5 league mark. The Valiants are paced by Alyssa Taylor who is batting .407 (24-59) with eight doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI.  Lynsey Schill follows with a .351 (33-94) average with six doubles, two triples, two home runs and eight RBI. Nicole Bifulco bats. 336 (39-116) with 13 doubles and 17 RBI.  Ashley Dell owns a .330 (29-88) mark with five doubles, two home runs and 17 RBI.

In the circle, Samantha Howe owns a 9-9 record with a 2.04 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 111.0 innings. Alyssa Taylor has a 8-5 record with 67 strikeouts in 96.0 innings.

DeSales University has a 23-17 overall record and a 12-2 conference mark on the year with one of their league losses coming to King's in a doubleheader split. The Bulldogs are led by Kerri Andrews who has a .374 (52-139) average with 14 doubles, three home runs, one triple and 77 RBI. Christine Petrilla has a .365 (50-137) average with 18 doubles four home runs and 19 RBI. Kate Steiner bats .333 (45-135) with five doubles, five home runs, one triple and 28 RBI. Jen Lococo adds a .324 (44-136) average with nine doubles, seven home runs and 34 RBI.

In the circle, Jen Lococo owns a 10-6 record with a 3.40 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 105.0 innings. Katie Morrissey is 7-8 with a 3.72 ERA and 118 strikeouts in 101 innings. Christine Petrilla is 6-3 with a 2.18 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 74 innings.

Number-four seeded Misericordia University has a 23-14 overall record and a 9-5 league mark after picking up a doubleheader victory over Eastern University on Saturday.  The Cougars are led by Nicole Hoskins who averages .380 (40-105) with 12 doubles, four home runs and 27 RBI. Courtney Novajosky follows with a .358 (44-123) average with four doubles, one home run and eight RBI. Nicole Wenner bats .349 (37-106) with 10 doubles, four home runs and 17 RBI. Hollie Sarnak adds a .315 (35-111) mark with five doubles, four home runs, one triple and 21 RBI.

In the circle, Kat Lucenti has a 17-10 record with a 2.69 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 169.1 innings. Caitlin Cromley has a 3-0 record with a 2.87 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 39 innings.
