Men's Soccer Blanks PSU-Hazleton 4-0 in Home Debut

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College men's soccer team saw four different players find the back of the net as the Monarchs posted a 4-0 shutout win against Penn State Hazleton in the teams' home debut at McCarthy Stadium Saturday afternoon.

 

With the win King's evens its overall mark at 1-1 on the young season.

 

Sophomore George Genco (Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge) would give King's the early 1-0 lead when he scored off a brilliant cross from freshman Kevin Buchanan (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) just 6:49 into the contest. Freshman Eric Stanfeld (Aberdeen, NJ/Matawan Regional) would then up the lead to 2-0 when he found the back of the net off a cross from sophomore Nicholas Armenti (Sewaren, NJ/Woodbridge) at the 27:44 mark of the first half. Fellow freshman Matt Habbel (Phoenixville, PA/Bishop Shanahan) would close out King's scoring in the first half with a goal off a helper from sophomore Yehudi Maldondo (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) to send the Monarchs to the break with a 3-0 advantage.

 

Freshman Max Allegro (Cheveerly, MD/Bishop McNamara) would add an insurance goal at the 78:42 mark when he headed in a pass from junior Billy Elliot (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville). King's was dominant throughout the contest, keeping the action in their offensive end for most of the 90 minutes of play. Freshman goalie Brandon Raynor (Newark, DE/Concord) secured his first collegiate victory and shutout, finishing with one save on the afternoon.

 

King's held a 18-2 advantage in shots, while garnering seven corner kicks. Nittany Lion goalie RJ Pita made nine stops in net for PSU-Hazleton.

 

King's will return to action tomorrow when they welcome SUNY Potsdam for a match at McCarthy Stadium at 1:00 p.m. to close out play in the Monarchs/Royal Classic.
