SIX MONARCHS HIT DOUBLE FIGURES IN 84-72 FREEDOM WIN AT MISERICORDIA
DALLAS, PA – The King's College men's basketball team showed no signs of a letdown following a tough loss at cross-town rival Wilkes University Saturday as six Monarchs reached double figures in an important 84-72 road victory at Misericordia University on Wednesday night.
With the win, King's improves to 9-6 overall and evens its conference mark at 3-3. Misericordia drops to 10-7 overall and 3-3 in league play.
The Monarchs scored the game's first five points as Nick Reisig connected from long range before Kevin Conroy scored inside. King's lead grew to 11 points, 14-3, thanks to a 9-0 run over the next four minutes. Conroy scored inside again and Kyle Stackhouse hit a short jumper before Kyle Hammonds scored in transition to cap off the spurt. The teams traded baskets over the next five minutes of play as King's kept their 11-point advantage, 22-11, following a Joe Caffrey three-pointer. The Monarchs would take their largest advantage of the first frame, 32-20, as the long range barrage continued with an Adam Brasky trey. King's took a 41-31 advantage to the break thanks to 50 percent (9-18) shooting from the field.
King's continued to hit from the perimeter in the second half in fine fashion. Reisig drilled a three-pointer to keep the Monarchs up 46-33 with 17:55 remaining. Conroy then flexed his muscle down low converting an old-fashioned three-point play on the Monarchs next possession to keep the lead at 13 points. Brasky connected on his second trey midway through the stanza giving King's a 55-40 lead with 10:08 left. King's kept their double digit lead through the next eight minutes of play before going 8-of-9 from the charity stripe down the stretch to preserve the important conference road victory.
Conroy patrolled the paint for King's finishing with a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Hammonds followed with 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. Brasky enjoyed his best outing as a Monarch posting a career-high 13 points off the bench. Matt Fiorino added 10 points on 2-of-3 shooting from behind the arc, while Stackhouse and Reisig rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points each. Caffrey posted a season-high eight points off the bench for King's.
The Monarchs did an excellent job taking care of the basketball, converting a season-low seven turnovers in the contest. King's also held a big advantage on the boards, out-rebounding the Cougars 40-33 including eight on the offensive end.
Jeff Slanovec led Misericordia with 18 points including six three-pointers. Ethan Eichhorst, the conference's leading scorer, posted 16 points and six rebounds. Robbie Johnson added 16 points and four rebounds, while Matt Greene contributed 13 points.
King's will continue their Freedom slate Saturday when they welcome DeSales University to Scandlon Gymnasium for a matchup at 3:00 p.m.
