MONARCH CAGERS DROP 115-111 2OT HEARTBREAKER AT MANHATTANVILLE

PURCHASE, NY -- Trevoy Pointer poured in a game-high 32 points, including a go-ahead three-pointer with :27 left in double overtime, as host Manhattanville College posted a thrilling 115-111 2OT victory over King's College in Freedom Conference play Saturday afternoon.

With the loss King's slips to 11-8 overall and 3-5 in conference play. Manhattanville improves to 12-7 overall and evens its league mark at 4-4.

King's took a 103-101 lead to open play in the second overtime as Kevin Conroy scored inside. After a Manhattanville bucket, Kyle Hammons made good on two free throws to keep the Monarchs up 105-103 with 3:41 left. The teams traded scores before a layup from Pointer gave the Valiants their first lead of the second overtime period, 108-107. One of two free throws from Kyle Stackhouse tied the score at 108 with 2:33 left on the clock. From there, Hammonds drilled a huge three-pointer to give King's some breathing room up 111-108 with just under two minutes to play.

Manhattanville would score a bucket in the paint before causing a Monarch miscue in the backcourt. Pointer then connected on a deep three-pointer to give the Valiants the lead back 113-111 with :27 remaining. King's went inside to Conroy, but the senior forward couldnt score on his first shot. The miss was rebounded by Stackhouse, but his shot fell off the mark and Conroy had one last chance at a putback. The shot was off the mark and Manhattanville's Jack Bramswig corralled the rebound and found Pointer as an outlet before a Monarch foul. Pointer sank both tosses from the line as Manhattanville escaped with the thrilling conference victory.

Manhattanville opened up a 95-90 lead early in the first overtime thanks to two driving scores and a free throw. A Conroy score inside cut the deficit to three before Hammonds connected on a huge three-pointer to tie the game at 97 with 1:17 left in the period. Conroy scored again inside with :29 left on the clock, but Pointer answered right back with a slashing drive to the hoop to tie the game at 99 with :14 seconds left.

King's went inside to the senior big man and Conroy was fouled with :5 left. He hit both free tosses before a Valiant timeout. From there, Glen Rodriguez took an inbound pass and converted a layup and was fouled in the process tying the game at 101 apiece with one second left on the clock. Rodriguez would miss the free attempt and Ian Oakley cleaned up the miss to send the game into the second overtime.

In the second half, the Monarchs found themselves down three with :48 left in regulation. Defensive pressure caused a Valiant turnover and a Fiorino trey rang true with :34 on the clock to tie the game at 90. Pointer had one last chance for Manhattanville, but missed a desperation jumper as time expired and forced the game into overtime.

Conroy led the way with a team-high 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting and added four rebounds. Hammonds finished with 26 points and five rebounds, canning four treys in 45 minutes of action. Fiorino posted a career-high 24 points on 5-for-9 shooting from behind the arc. Stackhouse rounded out the double figure scorers with 16 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in a game-high 47 minutes.

Pointer led the Valiants with a game-high 32 points and four rebounds. Four other Manhattanville players reached double figures as Rodriguez added 17 points, Peter Mehmel (16), Ivan Jovicic (15), and Lamar Glass (12).

Both teams had no trouble finding the bottom of the net throughout as King's shot 56.1 percent (37-66) from the floor, while Manhattanville finished 62.7 percent (42-67) from the field. The Monarchs held a slim 36-31 advantage on the glass, including 10 huge offensive rebounds leading to extra opportunities.

King's returns to action Wednesday when the Monarchs host Eastern University at 8:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium.
