King's College Men's Basketball Team Open Freedom Conference Play with Win Over Delaware Valley

Doylestown, PA-- Five different Monarchs scored in double figures as the King's College men's basketball team knocked off defending Freedom Conference Champion Delaware Valley 80-68 Tuesday night in the conference opener for both teams.

The Aggies (1-4, 0-1 Freedom) scored the first basket of the game, but the Monarchs (2-3, 1-0) scored the next eight points and never looked back leading the rest of the way.

King's led 8-7 with 14:58 to play in the first half when Kyle Hammonds made a layup on a Tim O'Shea pass to spark a 30-12 run that put the Monarchs up 38-19 with 3:55 remaining in the first half. Delaware Valley answered with an 11-3 run to close the half and cut the deficit to 11, 41-30 at the half.

King's built its largest lead of the game, 57-40, when Matt Fiorino connected from long range with 13:22 left to play. The Aggies were able to whittle the lead back down to 10 at 63-53 with 8:12 to play after a Cam Lee 3-pointer.

Delaware Valley was able to cut the lead to seven on a pair of Daulton Derr free throws with 1:28 left to play, but the Monarchs closed out the game from the charity stripe going 8-of-9 from the line in the final minute in a half to ice the game.

Hammonds was the top scorer for the Monarchs tallying 15 points. O'Shea chipped in 14 points and seven boards. Kyle Stackhouse chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds and five dimes. Allen Kuiper also scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Fiorino rounded out the double figures with 11 points.

Nathan Bollinger led all scorers with 19 points and eight rebounds. Derr chipped in 12 points and four boards while Jay Donovan added 11 points and four rebounds.

The Monarchs will come home to Scandlon Gymnasium for the first time this season when they host FDU-Florham Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
