KING'S JORDAN HADDOCK NAMED MAC FOOTBALL SENIOR SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
ANNVILLE -- King's College football standout
Jordan Haddock (Coal Township/Shamokin) has been named the 2011 Middle Atlantic Conference Football Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The award is based on a combination of academics, athletics, and community service. Haddock will be honored at a MAC awards luncheon in May.
A two-year starter at fullback, Haddock has enjoyed a distinguished academic career at King's. Haddock is the owner of an outstanding 3.95 overall grade-point average with a major in biology and a minor in neuroscience. A two-time MAC All-Academic selection, Haddock has been named to King's Dean's List all six semesters. He was a 2011 King's "Best of Science Award" winner and was named to Aquinas Society Honor Roll.
Last month Haddock was one of just two MAC players selected to the 2011 Capital One/CoSIDA District 4 Academic All-District Football Team. Haddock was also a finalist for the 2011 Capital One Academic All-American Football Team. In addition, he was named to Bernie Romanoskie Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame as a Scholar-Athlete.
Haddock has also been active in the local and campus communities, serving as a Level 1 College Reading/Learning Association Tutor where he mentors King's students in Chemistry and Biology. He is also a Certified E.M.T./Basic Life Support provider. Haddock has been a volunteers in Bowl For Kid's Sake and was a participant in the “Violence Against Women” program hosted by the King's Football Team. He also participated in the “Take Back the Night” march to downtown Wilkes-Barre to help raise awareness about violence against women.
On the field, Haddock was a three-year member and two-year starter on the King's football team. As a senior fullback, Haddock rushed for 121 yards on 22 carries, averaging 5.1 yards each attempt. He also was second on the team with 24 pass receptions for 144 yards out of the backfield. In two years at fullback he had 41 receptions for 243 yards. He was the recipient of King's Offensive “Big Hit Award” in three games in 2011: vs. Stevenson (9/17) and Delaware Valley (10/22), and FDU-Florham (11/5).
"Jordan has enjoyed an excellent career at King's as a student-athlete and we are very excited he has been honored with this award," King's coach Jeff Knarr stated. "Jordan has displayed a high level of commitment to everything he does and his dedication and attention to detail has enabled him to excel on the field and off. He is a great example of what the student-athlete is all about and we are extremely proud of how he has represented King's College as well as our football program."
