King's Swimming Finishes Day One Of MAC Championships; Women In 6th, Men In 9th Through 10 Events

KING'S SWIM TEAMS FINISH DAY ONE OF MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS; WOMEN IN 6TH, MEN IN 9TH THROUGH 10 EVENTS
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's and women's swimming teams finished day one of competition at the 2011 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships Friday at the Catholic Youth Center (CYC). The Lady Monarchs stand in 6th place through 10 events with 76 points, while the men are in 9th place totaling 21 points through the first day of action.
 
For the women, freshman Patricia Manning broke her own school record in the 200 IM with a fifth place finish at 2:16.36 bettering her previous mark of 2:19.28. Junior Rebecca Smith broke the school record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:28.27 and in the process captured the consolation finals best mark. Senior Maggie Nealer followed Smith in the event grabbing 4th place in the consolation finals at 5:35.82.
 
Two additional school records were broken in relay competition on the women's side. The team of Caitlin Casey, Nealer, Smith, and Krystna Homanko finished 7th in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.06, bettering their previous record of 1:49.09. In the 400 medley relay, the squad of A. Casey, C. Casey, Manning, and Nealer took home 7th place with a school-record time of 4:24.57, over six seconds better than earlier this season.
 
For the men, sophomore Jack Harrington (5:17.04) and Joshua DeBellas (5:19.63) finished 15th and 16th respectively in the 500 freestyle. The team of Harrington, Justin Weilert, Joe Wescoat, and Eric Stencovage swam well in the 200 freestyle relay finishing 9th at 1:36.13.
 
Day two of competition will resume Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
