King's Swimming Finishes Day Two Of MAC Championships; Manning First Female Champion

KING'S SWIMMING FINISHES DAY TWO OF MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS; MANNING BECOMES FIRST FEMALE CHAMPION
WILKES-BARRE -- Day two of the 2011 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships became a memorable one for this year's squads as freshman Patricia Manning became the first female champion in school history capturing first place in the 400 IM. At the conclusion of day two, the Lady Monarchs stand in 6th place with 159 points through 24 events. The Monarch men remain in 9th place with 55 points.

Manning, who was seeded second in the 400 IM finals, captured the championship with a time of 4:46.99, nearly six seconds better than her previous school record of 4:52.75 set earlier this year. Rebecca Smith also had a strong showing in the water for King's taking home 12th place in the 200 freestyle at 2:04.52, bettering her school record of 2:06.45 set earlier this season. 
 
Other finishers for the Lady Monarchs included Amanda Casey (16th place/100 backstroke) and Caitin Casey (14th place/100 butterfly). The women also faired well in their two relays on the day as the team of Manning, A. Casey, Smith, and C. Casey finished sixth in the 200 medley at 2:00.28, breaking the previous school mark of 2:02.43. The squad of Nealer, Manning, Homanko, and Smith captured fifth in the 800 freestyle to end competition for the night at 8:32.70.
 
For the men, Eric Stencovage placed seventh in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.74, just barely missing the school mark of 1:01.37. The relay team of Joe Wescoat, Justin Weilert, Jack Harrington, and Stencovage took eighth in the 200 medley at 1:49.25.
 
The event will conclude tomorrow with the final five events followed by the presentation of the individual/team awards.
