KING'S BASKETBALL HOSTS LOCAL RIVAL MISERICORDIA UNIVERSITY TUESDAY IN FREEDOM DOUBLEHEADER, VIEW LIVESTATS

 

WILKES-BARRE – The King's College men's and women's basketball squads continue their playoff push when they host local rival Misericordia University for a Freedom Conference doubleheader Tuesday in Scandlon Gymnasium. The women's game will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the men's tilt to follow at 8:00 p.m.

The Lady Monarchs (14-9, 8-4 Freedom) enter the contest in a three-way tie for second place with DeSales and Manhattanville following a 72-48 loss at DeSales on Saturday. King's owns a 4-1 home conference mark with both remaining games in Scandlon Gymnasium.

 

Sophomore guard Celia Rader leads the offense averaging 13.7 points (8th in Freedom), shooting 38.3 percent (57-149) from behind the arc. Junior forward Paige Carlin follows with 10.8 points and 4.7 rebounds, while sophomore guard Katlin Michaels adds 9.2 points and 5.0 rebounds. Sophomore guard Lindsay Atchison contributes 7.7 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds. King's averages 66.1 points per-game, while yielding 63.7 points each contest.

 

The Misericordia women's team stands 15-8 overall and sit atop the conference standings at 9-3 after a 61-39 victory against FDU-Florham on Saturday.

 

Junior forward Christine Marks, the conference's leading scorer, leads the Cougar attack averaging 18.3 points and 9.4 rebounds. Junior guard Jesse Robinson follows with 14.0 points and 5.0 rebounds, while sophomore guard Tyann McDaniel adds 12.4 points on a team-high 65 three-pointers. Misericordia averages 63.4 points per-game, while giving-up a conference-low 52.4 points each tilt.

The Monarchs (14-9, 6-6 Freedom) enter the contest in fifth place following a 65-63 setback at DeSales University on Saturday snapping a three-game conference win streak in the process. King's stands one game behind Misericordia, Wilkes, and Delaware Valley with two home games left on their schedule.

 

Senior forward Kevin Conroy leads the Monarch attack averaging 18.6 points (3rd in Freedom) and 5.8 rebounds, shooting 51.3 percent (141-275) from the field. Freshman guard Kyle Hammonds adds 13.0 points and 5.0 rebounds, canning 48 three-pointers. Sophomore guard Matt Fiorino contributes 10.6 points, hitting a conference-high 47.1 percent (56-119) from long range. Junior forward Nick Reisig chips in 7.7 points and 5.5 rebounds, while junior point-guard Kyle Stackhouse runs the offense averaging 8.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. King's averages a conference-best 75.0 points per-game, while yielding 68.5 points each contest.

 

The Misericordia men's team stands 14-9 overall and 7-5 in Freedom play after a 73-71 victory against FDU-Florham on Saturday. The Cougars are locked in a three-way tie for second place with Wilkes and Delaware Valley in the crowded league standings.

 

Junior forward Ethan Eichhorst tops the squad averaging 19.4 points (2nd in Freedom) and 7.4 rebounds. Senior guard Robbie Johnson follows with 15.5 points, while junior guard Jeff Slanovec adds 12.9 points.

 

King's posted an 84-72 decision in Dallas, Pa. on January 19th in the teams' first meeting.

 

Both squads conclude their Freedom slates Saturday against cross-town rival Wilkes University on Senior Day in Scandlon Gymnasium. The women's game is set for 1:00 p.m. with the men's to follow at 3:00 p.m. Seniors will be recognized prior to each contest.
