KING'S SOFTBALL TEAM TO FACE TOP COMPETITION AT SALISBURY INVITATIONAL FRIDAY/SATURDAY

SALISBURY, MD — The King's College softball team will be heavily tested this weekend when the Lady Monarchs compete in the Salisbury University Invitational.  King's will play four games against two outstanding squads in perennial NCAA Division III national power Salisbury as well as Ohio Athletic Conference contender Capital University.

On Friday, King's (4-1) will play Capital (7-1) at 10:00 a.m. before meeting 16th ranked Salisbury (14-4) at 12:00 noon.  On Saturday, the Lady Monarchs will again play Capital at 10:00 a.m. before closing out play against Salisbury at 2:00 p.m.

King's is batting .387 (53-137) as a team thus far, led by freshman Jenn Harnischfeger with a .636 (7-11) average with two doubles, four RBI, six runs scored, and three steals. Sophomore second-baseman Kayla Rutkoski follows at .625 (5-8) with a double while Brittany Baynes is also hitting .625 (5-8) with one home run, four RBI, and scored three runs. Senior third-baseman Gretchen Tholen bats .500 (4-8) with a double and two RBI while freshman catcher Amanda Cardone stands at .444 (4-9) with one home run and 10 RBI. Junior outfielder Kaitlin Siegfried hits .412 (7-17) with two doubles and four RBI. Junior outfielder Rachel Zinni chips in with a .333 (4-12) average, including four runs and two RBI.  

The pitching staff is manned by sophomore Annie Erndl and freshman Brittany Haight. Erndl is 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 16 innings. Haight, meanwhile, is 2-1 with a 0.00 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 13 innings, including a perfect game in her last outing against Southern Vermont.

Salisbury is led by junior pitching star Erika Brittingham who is 9-3 with a 1.01 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 69 innings. Brittingham has already tossed three no-hitters this season. Harley Hill is batting .437 (31-71) with nine doubles and 15 RBI. Lindsay Brown follows at .362 (21-58) with four doubles and 10 RBI. Michelle Gravdahl stands at .353 (18-51) with two home runs and 14 RBI while Sarah Albaugh is batting .349 (15-43) with three home runs and eight RBI. Also in the circle for the Sea Gulls is Kelly Lleary who is 5-1 with a 1.67 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 50 innings.

Capital is paced offensively by Jen Reimer who is batting .563 (9-16) with six runs and five RBI. Jessica Stoltz follows at .500 (12-24) with four doubles and six RBI. Stephanie Peterson contributes with a .467 (7-15) ark with six runs and two RBI. Ashley Daugherty bats .440 (11-25) with two doubles, one home run, 10 runs and eight RBI. In the circle, Jessica Montgomery is 5-1 with a 2.36 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 33 innings. Devan Boggs is 2-0 with a 5.25 ERA and six strikeouts in 13 innings.
