KING'S SOFTBALL TO MAKE HOME DEBUT WEDNESDAY AGAINST MANHATTANVILLE

WILKES-BARRE --  The King's College softball team will make its home debut Wednesday when the Lady Monarchs host Manhattanville College in a rematch of the 2010 Freedom Conference Tournament opener at 3:00 p.m. In the Betzler Athletic Complex.

King's enters the doubleheader having not played in nearly two weeks after the unexpected weather the region has endured. The Lady Monarchs are 4-4 on the year. Manhattanville, meanwhile, is 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the Freedom Conference after sweeping pre-season conference favorite DeSales over the weekend. King's, the two-time defending conference champion, was picked third in the pre-season coaches poll while Manhattanville was predicted to finish second.

Junior transfer Brittny Banes is netting a team-high .600 (9-15) with two home runs and eight RBI. Sophomore second-baseman Kayla Rutkoski follows at .500 (7-14) while freshman shortstop Jenn Harnischfeger stands at .455 (10-22) with three doubles and six RBI. Sophomore pitcher Annie Erndl is hitting .417 (5-12) with four RBI while freshman catcher Amanda Cardone bats .400 (4-10) with 10 RBI. Freshman outfielder Rebecca Taylor contributes with a .385 (5-13); senior third-baseman Gretchen Tholen follows at .375 (6-16) while junior outfielder Kaitlin Siegfried chips in with a .346 (9-26) average with two doubles, four RBI and a team-high 10 runs scored.

Manhattanville is led by senipr pitcher Samantha How who is 3-3 with a 1.01 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 42 innings. How is also second on the team with a .444 (8-18) batting average, including a double and four RBI. The Valiants' top batter is Lindsay Zekus who hits .458 (11-24) with two doubles and four RBI. Jessica VanGalen follows with a .400 (10-25) mark with two doubles, one home run, and eight RBI.

King's is then scheduled to return to action Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Wilkes.
