KING'S SOFTBALL HOSTS EASTERN SATURDAY IN FREEDOM TWINBILL, VIEW LIVESTATS
WILKES-BARRE – The King's College softball team returns to the diamond Saturday after a seven-day layoff due to the rainy weather throughout the region when the Lady Monarchs host Eastern University in a Freedom Conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Betzler Athletic Complex.

King's (9-7, 5-3 Freedom) currently is locked in a three-way tie for second place in the Freedom Conference with two weeks remaining in the regular season. The Lady Monarchs are tied with both DeSales and FDU-Florham at 5-3, as the top four teams advance to the postseason tournament. Manhattanville, whom King's split with earlier this season, owns the top spot at 7-1.
The defending Freedom Conference champion Lady Monarchs enter the contest with the most dangerous offense in the league batting a conference best .343 through the first 16 games. Five King's players are ranked in the top ten in individual batting average. Junior transfer Brittny Baynes (left) tops the team batting .472 (17-36) with four home runs and 15 RBI. Rookie catcher Amanda Cardone hits .444 (16-36) with four home runs and a team-high 21 RBI.
In the circle, Erndl stands 4-4 with a 5.07 earned run average with 33 strikeouts in 59.1 innings of work. Freshman Brittany Haight owns a 5-2 mark with a 0.40 ERA on 26 strikeouts in 34.2 innings.
Eastern (13-11, 1-7 Freedom) enters the doubleheader after dropping a pair of games at Messiah College on Thursday. Sophomore pitcher Janelle Fair tops the offense batting .393 (22-56) with five doubles, two home runs, and 13 RBI. Junior infielder Maggie McGowan follows at .355 (27-76) with five doubles, seven home runs, and a team-high 25 RBI.
In the rotation, Fair stands 5-5 with a 2.75 ERA in 68.2 innings of work. Senior Kristen Rosko owns a 3-2 record with a 5.05 ERA in 34.2 innings.
Following the games, King's will break from Freedom play when they host SUNY Oneonta Monday at 3:00 p.m. at the Betzler Complex.
