CARDONE HITS THREE HOME RUNS IN NIGHTCAP KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH MISERICORDIA IN REMATCH OF 2010 FREEDOM CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
 
DALLAS -- In a rematch of the 2010 Freedom Conference championship game won by King's College, the Lady Monarchs and host Misericordia University battled to a doubleheader split Saturday in Dallas.

Misericordia won the first game 8-0 in six innings before King's rallied for a 13-0 five-inning triumph in the nightcap.  With the split King's stands at 9-7 and 5-3 in Freedom Conference games while Misericordia is 10-10 and 3-3.

In the opener, King's mustered just three hits against the Cougar starter Cat CromleyJenn Harnischfeger, Amanda Cardone, and Annie Erndl all had singles for the Lady Monarchs. Erndl was the losing pitcher in game one, surrendering eight runs on eight hits, including four home runs.

In the nightcap, Cardone enjoyed a spectacular game with a school single-game record three home runs in the Lady Monarchs' win. The freshman catcher hit a two-run home run in the first inning, another in the third, then added her third two-run round-tripper of the game in the sixth inning to finish the game 4-for-4 with six RBI and four runs scored.

King's scored four in the first inning, three more in the third, five in the fourth inning, and two in the fifth frame. Brittany Baynes went 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBI, including a fourth-inning grand slam. Harnischfeger, Rachel Zinni, Kim Howantiz, and Erin Beane added two hits apiece.

Freshman Brittany Haight was the winning pitcher, allowing just three hits with four strikeouts.
 

King's returns to action Tuesday with a 3:00 p.m. home doubleheader against Centenary College at the Betzler Athletic Complex.
