LADY MONARCH TENNIS EARNS 7-2 ROAD VICTORY OVER MANHATTANVILLE
PURCHASE, NY -- The King's College women's tennis team won its first Freedom Conference match of the season as the Lady Monarchs posted a 7-2 victory over host Manhattanville College Saturday in Purchase, NY.
With the victory, King's improved to 3-11 overall and 1-2 in Freedom Conference competition. Manhattanville, meanwhile, slipped to 1-9 and 0-2 in conference matches.
King's opened the meet by capturing two of the three doubles contests. Rachel Hoffnagle and Maria Cometa were 8-5 winners in the number-two flight while teammates Jen Bader and Nicole Molina also won their match by an 8-5 score.
In singles, the Lady Monarchs put the Valiants away by winning five of the six matches, including three pivotal contests that were decided in three sets.
Maria Cometa was a 6-2, 6-4 winner at fourth singles while Nicole Molina tallied a 6-0, 6-3 triumph in the number-six spot.
The match was decided, however, by King's Hoffnagle, Bader, and Lauren Breen who all won their three-set matches.
At second singles, Breen was a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 victor. In the third singles spot, Hoffnagle roared back from one set deficit to post a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 triumph. At sixth singles, Nicole Molina fashioned a marathon 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 10-8 win to help seal the victory.
King's will be idle until Saturday when the Lady Monarchs host FDU-Florham at 1:00 p.m. at Kirby Park.
