Wilkes-Barre-- The King's College field hockey team battled back but fell to No. 20 Montclair State 4-3 in overtime Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.
Montclair State scored first when Jennifer Tafro scored unassisted from the top of the circle at 16:52. The Lady Monarchs answered at 18:58 on an unassisted tally by
Jenera Quinones.
King's grabbed the lead when
Jackie Sikora converted on a penalty shot after a Red Hawks player covered the ball after it squirted past the goalie giving King's a 2-1 halftime lead.
Devin McNamara tied the game just over a minute into the second half when she finished off a scramble in front of the net. Montclair took the lead at 50:20 on a Brittany Carroll goal assisted by McNamara.
The Lady Monarchs tied the game as time expired on a penalty corner goal from Quinones from the top of the circle.
Carroll ended the game four minutes into overtime deflecting an Emily Burd pass into the net off a penalty corner.
Megan Withrow sparkled in net facing 23 shots and making 13 saves taking the loss and falling to 4-2 on the season.
The Lady Monarchs return to action Thursday when they host Neumann University at 7:00 pm at McCarthy Stadium.
