KING'S FIELD HOCKEY EDGED BY RAMAPO COLLEGE 5-4
 
OWINGS MILLS, MD – Ramapo College opened a 4-1 second-half lead and held on for a 5-4 victory over King's College Sunday on the final day of the Black Eyed Susan Invitational at Stevenson University.

With the loss, King's slipped to 2-1 while Ramapo improved to 3-0.

Ramapo scored just 7:04 into the game when Victoria Ahlers stuck net off an assist from Amanda Barretta. King's knotted the score at 1-1 when Jenera Quinones scored unassisted at the 17:46 mark. But Ramapo answered just 0:57 later on a Katie Bruno score. At 28:02, the lead grew to 3-1 when Barretta  scored unassisted. In the second half, Barretta again found the back of the net to push the lead to 4-1 at 37:17. King's fought back when Quinones scored back to back goals at 38:34 and 44:34 to bring the Lady Monarchs to within 4-3.

But Ramapo countered when Jayne Manigrasso scored off a penalty corner to extend the Roadrunner lead to 5-3 with 17:04 remaining. King's added its final goal when Abby McManus scored off an assist from Calli Berryman with 1:13 to play but the Lady Monarchs were unable to force overtime as Ramapo held on for the victory.

King's outshot Ramapo 17-10 and held a 15-8 advantage in penalty corners.

Quinones netted three goals in the game for King's while Barretta paced Ramapo with two goals and two assists. In goal, King's Megan Withrow player 51 minutes and allowed three goals while Brittany Naylor yielded two scores in 18 minutes of play.

The Lady Monarchs return to action Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. matchup at Marywood University in Scranton.
