Monarchs Host Misericordia in Key Freedom Conference Matchup
Wilkes-Barre, PA-- The King's College men's basketball team finds themselves in a four-way tie for third place in the Freedom Conference and look to improve their standing when they host Misericordia on Wednesday night at Scandlon Gymnasium at 8:00 p.m.
The game will be televised locally by WYLN-TV. King's student activities is organizing a "Whiteout" as Monarch fans and students are asked to wear white to the game.
The Monarchs record stands at 8-9 overall and an even 3-3 in the Freedom Conference after dropping an 80-69 decision at Manhattanville on Saturday. The Cougars improved to 11-6 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom with a 73-59 victory over Delaware Valley on Saturday.
In the all-time series King's holds a 22-6 edged, but it has been more even in recent history as the teams are 3-3 since Misericordia entered the Freedom Conference in the 2008-09 season.
On paper, the teams appear to be similar in counting on perimeter shooting. On the offensive end the Monarchs have hit 120 three-pointers for an average of 7.1 treys per contest which is second in the conference. The Cougars also launch the long range shot, hitting 129 from beyond the arc to lead the conference with 7.6 per game.
King's leads the conference in assist to turnover ratio dishing out 281 helpers and turning the ball over 229 times for a 1.2 ratio. The Cougars have shot .479 from the field this season the second best mark in the Freedom.
Sophomore
Kyle Hammonds leads the Monarchs in scoring with 12.3 points per game. He also averages 3.4 rebounds. Freshman forward
Keyton Winder has enjoyed a solid freshman campaign with 10.1 points and 4.2 boards per contest.
Senior point guard
Kyle Stackhouse is averaging 9.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and his 3.2 helpers per contest and is tied with teammate
Nick Reisig for third best in the conference.
Matt Fiorino, who averages 9.5 points per-game, has connected on 36 three-pointers and averages 2.1 each contest, the third best mark in the Freedom. Freshman forward
Tim O'Shea tallies 8.2 points and 3.7 rebounds while fellow rookie forward
Mike Foster contributes 6.3 points and 23 three-pointers.
The Cougar offense is paced by Ethan Eichhorst who is the conference's second leading scorer at 17.4 points per game. He is also pulling down a team-high 7.4 rebounds. Justin Grotevant and Jeff Slanovec are averaging 10.7 points per game each. Steve Artzerounian is also in double figures in scoring with 10.1 points per contest.
