King's Men's Basketball Falls to Misercorida at the Buzzer

Wilkes-Barre, PA-- Ethan Eichhorst drove the lane and hit a layup with 1.4 seconds on the clock to lift Misericordia past King's 62-60 Wednesday night at Scandlon Gymnasium in Freedom Conference action.

With 0:29 remaining, the Monarchs trailed 60-58 after Matt Greene drained a 3-pointer. King's answered when Kyle Stackhouse drove to the hoop and made an acrobatic layup to cut the lead to 60-58 with 0:21 on the clock. On the ensuing inbounds Donovan Womack stole the ball from Steve Arterounian. Stackhouse was then fouled and made a pair of free-throws to tie the game at 60-60 with just :08 to play.

Misericordia would call a timeout with 04.4 on the clock. When the Cougars returned to the court, the ball was inbounded to Eichorst at the top of the key. The senor forward made a fake to the right, then cut back to the left and somehow found himself at the rim for an uncontested lay-up with 0:04 on the clock with no Monarch even in position to attempt a foul. King's inbounded the ball to Kyle Stackhouse whose three-quarter court shot was well shot as Misericordia walked away with the victory.

Iw as a frustrating loss for the Monarchs who trailed for a total of just 2:06 the entire game.

King's held a 49-41 lead with 9:14 on the clock when Matt Fiorino hit a long jumper. The Cougars answered with a 16-7 run led by seven points from Greene and five from Artzerounian.

The Monarchs came out hot building the lead to 12 three different times in the first half the lastest on a Keyton Winder layup that pushed the score to 23-11 at the 7:20 mark in the first half. Misericordia bounced back with an 18-5 spurt to close out the half and take a 29-28 edge into the locker room.

In the second half,  King's opened strong grabbing the lead back with a 13-5 with five different Monarchs scoring led by five points from Kyle Hammonds.

King's was also plagued by foul trouble throughout as Misericordia went to the charity stripe 25 times compared to just 11 for the Monarchs. King's was whistled for 21 fouls compated to 11 for Misericordia.

King's falls to 8-10 on the season and 3-4 in the Freedom Conference and finds themselves on the outside looking in as they sit in a three-way tie for fifth with DeSales and Manhattanville. Misericordia improves to 12-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference tied with FDU-Florham for the third spot.

Stackhouse paced the Monarch offense with 16 points to go with four rebounds and a pair of assists. Winder scored all 11 of his points in the first half and added four boards, two helpers, and two blocks. Hammonds tallied 10 points and four boards. Tim O'Shea also reached double figure scoring with 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

Eichhorst led the Cougars with 17 points  on 6-of-12 shooting along with six boards and two dimes. Greene hit three triples to add 13 points and six assists. Artzerounian scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

The Monarchs look to right the ship when they continue conference play against DeSales on Saturday afternoon at Scandlon Gymnasium. Tip is set for 3:00 p.m.
