King's Men's Basketball Drops 58-44 Decision to DeSales
Wilkes-Barre, PA— The King's College men's basketball team had a rough shooting night as the Monarchs fell to DeSales 58-44 in Freedom Conference action Saturday afternoon at Scandlon Gymnasium.
King's slipped to 8-11 overall and 3-5 in the Freedom Conference while DeSales improves to 11-8 overall with a 4-4 mark in the conference
The Monarchs held an 11-8 advantage with 13:21 to play in the first half. The Bulldogs responded with the next nine points to take the lead 17-11 that they never relinquished. DeSales finished the half on and 11-7 run to build the lead to 28-18 at the break.
After the half the Bulldogs opened with a 15-6 run to build their largest lead of the game at 43-24 with 8:43 left in the contest. The Monarchs came no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
Sophomore guard
Donovan Womack paced the King's offense with 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Freshman
Keyton Winder also totaled 10 points as well as four boards and three steals.
Mike Foster netted a pair of 3-pointers for six points.
King's struggled mightily from the field, making just 33.3 (17-51) percent of its shots from the field and just 23.1 (3-130 percent from three-point range. The Monarchs were also outrebounded 39-26, marking the 10th time in the last 12 games King's has lost the battle of the boards.
Three Bulldogs reached double figures scoring led by 13 from Mike Coleman. Coleman also grabbed five rebounds and five helpers. Brett Moyer scored 10 points to go with six rebounds while Tom Marshall chipped in 10 points and four boards.
The Monarchs look to bounce back when they hit the road to take on conference leading Eastern on Wednesday in another Freedom Conference tilt. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
