King's Upsets Unbeaten Lycoming 82-80

Wilkes-Barre, PA -- Lycoming's Ihsann Davis watched his last-second leaning jumper hit the back board and rim out as the King's College men's basketball team held on to claim an 82-80 win over the previously unbeaten Warriors Saturday afternoon at Scandlon Gymnasium.

Kyle Hammonds drained a pair of free throws with 0:11 left to play to put the Monarchs up 81-78. After a Joe Caffrey foul, Davis sank both ends of a one-and-one to cut the lead to 81-80. Kyle Stackhouse then hit the second of a pair of free throws with :04 left to set the scene for the final shot. Following the inbound pass, Davis drove in just beyond the three-point line and attempted to tie the game but the shot fell off the mark as the Monarchs knocked Lycoming from the ranks of the unbeaten.

With 3:39 to play in the second half, Nick Reisig made a foul shot to put King's up 76-65. The Warriors answered with a 13-3 run, getting seven points from Davis and six from Kevin Anthony.

Lycoming led 59-55 with 10:20 to play in game, but the Monarchs got a pair of 3-pointers from Mike Foster and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe as part of a 19-4 spurt to build the lead back to 76-65 with 3:39 remaining in the game. King's allowed the Warriors to get back into the game as the Monachs used poor clock management and took several quick shots rather than working free for quality looks.

Up 15-14 with 12:45 on the clock in the first half the Monarchs built their largest lead of the half , 25-16, behind four points from Ian Oakley. Lycoming was able to get as close as 26-24 with 5:43 remaining in the first half before King's closed on 12-7 burst to take a 31-38 lead to the locker room.

The Monarchs opened the second half with a 38-31 lead, but watched it evaporate over the first 4:30 of the second half as Lycoming opened with a 13-5 run.

The Monarchs hit 12-of-28 attempts from beyond the arc, and were 7-of-15 in the second half. Hammonds led the Monarchs in scoring with 18 points including shooting 4-of-9 from long range and adding five assists. Keyton Winder posted a double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Stackhouse turned in nine points, six boards and three helpers. Foster also scored nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from 3-point range.

Anthony posted 28 points and seven rebounds. Davis chipped in 20 points and five boards. Patrick Dougher shot 4-of-10 from three and scored 14 points. Anthony Martin added 13 points.

King's improves to 7-6 on the season, while Lycoming stands at 12-1. The Monarchs return to Freedom Conference action on Wednesday with a trip to Center Valley to face DeSales University at 8:00 p.m.
