King's Football Travels to Albright for Stiff MAC Test

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College football team hits the road this Saturday when they make the trip to Reading to take on Albright at 1:00 p.m. at Gene L. Shirk Stadium.

The Monarchs dropped a 38-0 decision to perennial MAC  powerhouse Delaware Valley last Saturday at McCarthy Stadium. 

The Lions enter the contest 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the MAC with losses to Delaware Valley and conference leading Lycoming. Albright blanked FDU-Florham 45-0 last Saturday.

ABOUT THE GAME:
Today's game is the 18th all-time meeting between the two shcools. The Monarchs carry a 1-5 overall record and a 1-4 mark in Middle Atlantic Conference play. The Lions bring a 4-2 overall record and a 3-2 record in league play.     

ABOUT THE SERIES:
Albright leads the all-time series 11-5-1 after knocking off the Monarchs 57-17 last season at McCarthy Stadium. King's last victory came in 2006 when the Monarchs picked up a 38-24 win at McCarthy Stadium. The last road win for King's came during the Monarchs 2002 MAC Championship season when King's defeated Albright 35-7at Shirk Stadium.
 
THE COACHES:   
Monarch mentor Jeff Knarr is in his third season of rebuilding the program at King's and owns a 3-23 career record. Albright coach John Marzka is in his sixth season leading the Lions and is 41-21.  

LAST GAME:
King's fell to defending MAC Champion Delaware Valley 38-0. The Monarchs fumbled twice inside the redzone. Sophomore tailback Kyle McGrath went over 100 yards for the fourth time this season.

The Lions posted a 45-0 win over FDU-Florham last week. The Lions offensive attack was led by senior wideout Scott Pillar who picked up MAC “Offensive Player of the Week” honors by lining up in the backfield and rushing for 114 yards and adding 20 yards receiving.     

KING'S ON OFFENSE:    MULTIPLE-I                  
The King's offense is currently ranked ninth in the MAC with an average of 293.3 total yards per-game. The Monarchs stand eighth in rushing with  133.8 yards per-game and are rated seventh in passing with 159.5 yards. The King's offense is under the direction of sophomore quarterback Tyler Hartranft who has started the past five games. Hartranft has completed 72-of-154 passes for 867 yards with two touchdowns and six interceptions. Sophomore tailback Kyle McGrath ranks second in the MAC in rushing with 614 yards on 117 carries with five touchdowns and averages 5.2 yards each attempt. 

Junior tailback Judens Goimbert has been solid off the bench, adding 175 yards on 34 carries while averaging 5.1 yards per-carry. Sophomore split end Dan  Kempa has 12 receptions for 238 yards with one touchdown . Senior split end Adam Kudlacik also contributes 11 catches for 121 yards while senior tight end Matt Henry adds nine receptions for 129 yards. Junior wide receivers Josh Sanders made four grabs against Delaware Valley to give him 10 on the year for 125 yards.Junior Jordan Buford has hauled in seven balls for 72 yards.
 
ALBRIGHT ON OFFENSE:    MULTIPLE
The Lion offense is ranked fourth in the MAC in total offense with a 379.5 yards per-game. Albright ranks third in the league in passing offense posting 216.3 yards per game through the air. The Lions rank sixth in the league in rushing averaging 163.2 yards per game and averaging 4.3 yards per carry.

All-around senior wideout Scott Pillar leads the MAC in receptions per game with 7.2 per game. Pillar rushed for 114 yards last week and ranks third in the conference in receiving with 78.2 yards per game. The offense is orchestrated by quarterback TJ Luddy. Luddy has completed 79-of-123 for 906 yards, eight touchdowns and six interceptions.Ty Hughes leads the Lions rushing attack with 459 yards and a 76.5 yards per game average.

KING'S ON DEFENSE:    MULTIPLE 3-4
King's defense is ranked fifth in the MAC, allowing an average of 336.8 total yards per-game.  The Monarchs are rated fourth against the run, yielding 137.0 yards each contest while standing fifth against the pass at 199.8 yards every game. Leading the way defensively for King's is junior safety Kris Matthews who tops the squad with 46 total tackles with one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Senior linebacker Ryan Kelly follows with 43 total tackles with two tackles for loss and one forced fumble.

Junior linebacker Jake Ksiaziewicz has 38 tackles with 6.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks while fellow junior linebacker Ben Ray also adds 37 tackles. Senior defensive end Ron Garrett has registered 25 tackles with 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks while sophomore linebacker Nick Kaijala  has tallied 19 stops Sophomore linebacker Chad Curtice chips in with 19 tackles as well. King's returned standout senior linebacker Ryan Cordingly making 12 stops against Delaware Valley and now has 19 tackles in just two games this season.
King's defense did take a hit with a loss to its top cornerback, freshman Tyler Cruz, to an injury for the rest of the season. Cruz had made 14 tackles and had four pass breakups on the year.    

ALBRIGHT ON DEFENSE:    MULTIPLE
Defensively, the Lions rank third in the MAC in total defense allowing just 312.3 yards per game. Albright ranks sixth in the conference against the run allowing opponents 161.5 yards per game on the ground, but rank second in the league in pass defense holding the opposition to just 150.8 yards through the air.

Matthew Hnatiuk leads the team with 41 tackles with 2.0 tackles for loss and two pass breakups. Paul Hobbs has chipped in 36 stops. Levi Myers has tallied 35 stops, 3.0 takles for loss and a fumble recovery. Ryan Ott has made 28 tackles with 5.0 coming behind the line of scrimmage.

Nick Gjoni leads the team with 7.0 tackles for loss and has made 23 stops overall. Gjoni also has 4.0 sacks and one forced fumble. The Albright defense has thrived on turnovers forcing 11 over the first six games of the season.

King's will resume action on Saturday, October 27 when the Monarchs host Stevenson at 1:00 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
