King's Men's Basketball Falls to Albright 103-74

Wilkes-Barre, Pa.—The King's College men's basketball team suffered their first defeat of the season on Tuesday night as the Monarchs dropped a 103-74 decision to visiting Albright College.

Albright came out of the break, fast and never looked back going on a 23-6 run to open the second frame, putting the Lions (3-0) up 67-46 at the 14:23 mark. Sam Marrella tallied eight of his 15 points in that stretch. The Monarchs (2-1) never got closer than 17 the rest of the way.

With 17:34 to play in the first half King's held a 5-4 advantage before a pair of Zach Benjamin free throws sparked a 19-3 spurt to build the Lions lead to 23-8.

The Monarchs answered with a 21-6 run of their own keyed by a pair of old-school three-point plays by Keyton Winder who notched 12 points in that six minute stretch to cut the deficit to 32-29. Albright built the lead back 11, 44-33, on a free throw by Pedro Perez. King's rallied to score the next seven points to set the halftime score at 44-40.

Winder paced the King's offense with 20 points, on 9-of-12 shooting, as well as five rebounds in 20 minutes on the court. Tim O'Shea was the only other Monarch in double figures with 10 points to go with three rebounds and three assists.

Five Lions finished in double figures led by 19 from Reuell Moore, who shot 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Dave Singleton finished with a double-double of 14 points and 14 boards. Singleton also dished out seven assists. Perez tallied 16, while Benjamin finished with 12 points and five rebounds. Albright shot lights out from beyond the arc going 15-of-28 from distance.

The Lions 103 points is the most allowed by the Monarchs since a 112-106 double-overtime loss to Carnegie Mellon last season in the Monarch Classic.

King's returns to action on Monday when it host Muhlenberg College at 8:00 p.m. at Scandlon Gymnasium.
