King's Men's Basketball Falls 66-47 at Eastern

St. David's, PA-- Despite three Monarchs reaching double figures in the scoring the King's College men's basketball team fell to Eastern 66-47 Wednesday night in Freedom Conference action.

King's slips to 8-12 overall and 3-6 in the Freedom Conference, while the Eagle stay atop the Freedom standings with a 14-6 overall mark and a 7-2 conference record.

The Eagles carried play early scoring the first nine points of the game and held a 15-2 advantage at the 11:58 mark in the first half after an Alex Nelson bucket. The Monarchs got as close as seven, 19-12, at the 8:11 mark, but went into the locker room down 32-21.

Eastern held a 12 point edge, 37-25, with 18:24 to play. King's answered with an 8-0 run on a pair of treys from Kyle Hammonds and an Ian Oakley layup to cut the deficit to 37-33. The Eagles scored the next six points to push the lead back to 43-33.

With 10:21 to play in the game Nick Reisig hit a 3-pointer that cut the lead to 43-38, but the Monarchs couldn't get any closer as the Eagles hit triples on their next two possesions to spark a 23-9 run to take command.

Donovan Womack was King's leading scorer 12 points and three rebounds off the bench. Hammonds was 3-of-7 from 3-point range on his way to 11 points and four boards. Nick Reisig also netted 11 points as well as three helpers and two rebounds.

Eastern was led by Martin Soaries with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists. Collin Whipple chipped in 17 points and eight boards. The Freedom's leading scorer Alex Nelson posted a double double with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Monarchs resume their conference slate on Saturday when they make the trip to FDU-Florham for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.
