King's Men's Basketball Send Off Seniors with 79-54 Win Over Manhattanville

Wilkes-Barre, PA—The King's College men's basketball team snapped their seven-game losing streak by topping visiting Manhattanville 79-54 Saturday afternoon at Scandlon Gymnasium.

With 7:23 on the clock in the first half Manhattanville's Ivan Jovicic cut the King's lead to 23-15 on a 3-pointer. The Monarchs broke the game open with a 22-4 run over the next 4:30 to stretch the lead to 45-19. Five different King's players scored in that run led by five points each from Kyle Hammonds and Matt Fiorino.

Trailing 45-25 at the break the Valiants cut the lead to 52-36 at the 14:37 mark on a layup by Brian Bertucci, but that was as close as Manhattanville would get as the Monarchs used a 13-4 spurt to build the lead back to 65-40.

With the win the Monarchs moved to 9-14 overall and 4-8 in the Freedom Conference while the Valiants slipped to 10-13 and 4-8 in the league.

Hammonds paced the King's offense tallying 20 points, on 7-of-11 shooting, to go with four steals and a pair of rebounds. Fiorino was  a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc on his way to 16 points and two rebounds. Tim O'Shea also reached double figures adding 10 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Senior Nick Reisig made the most of his final game at Scandlon Gymnasium scoring nine points and grabbing two boards. Fellow senior Kyle Stackhouse scored just two points, but pulled down four rebounds and dished out five helpers.

The King's defense didn't allow any Valiant to reach double figures in scoring. Taylor Mazzei and Bertucci each scored nine points . Jack Bramswig tallied eight points and grabbed a game-high 11 boards for Manhattanville.

The alumni game was also highly entertaining featuring 21 past members of the King's basketball program. The white team down the red team by a final score of 112-102 in overtime.
