MONARCH MEN OPEN FINAL WEEK OF REGULAR-SEASON WITH ROAD TRIP TO MISERICORDIA

?
WILKES-BARRE -- With the King's College men's basketball team eliminated form the post-season picture, the Monarchs are looking to play the role of spoiler with two games remaining against league opponents battling for high seeds. King's will have its first opportunity too impact the Freedom Conference standings Tuesday night when the Monarchs travel to Dallas to face first-place Misericordia at 8:00 p.m. in the Anderson Center.

The Monarchs stand at 9-14 overall and 4-8 in the Freedom Conference after posting a dominating 79-54 victory over Manhattanville on Saturday. The win snapped a frustrating stretch for the Monarchs who had lost seven straight games, including a disappointing last-second 62-60 home loss to Misericordia on January 25 The loss, arguably, had a ripple-affect on King's which subsequently lost its next four league contests.

Misericordia, meanwhile, stands atop the Freedom Conference standings with a 17-6 overall record and a 9-3 league mark, one game ahead of second-place Wilkes (8-4) and two games in front of third place Eastern and DeDales (both 7-5). With two games remaining the Cougars need a win to clinch, at worst, the second seed and a home first-round game in the Freedom Conference Tournament.

Should Wilkes lose at home to DeSales Tuesday night Misericordia would then clinch the top seed with a win over the Monarchs. A King's win combined with a Wilkes victory would created a tie for first-place heading into the final regular-season game where Misericordia travels to Manhattanville while Wilkes hosts King's.

The Monarchs are led by sophomore guard Kyle Hammonds who tops the squad with 11.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 39 three-pointers. Junior guard Matt Fiorino follows with 9.4 points and 50 three-pointers. Freshman forward Keyton Winder adds 9.2 points and 4.3 rebounds with 24 three-pointers while senior guard Kyle Stackhouse contributes 8.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.

Freshman forward Mike Foster tallies 6.1 points with 31 three-pointers while senior forward Nick Reisig nets 6.0 points and 3.6 rebounds. Sophomore guard Donovan Womack chips in with 4.5 points.

Misericordia is led by senior forward Ethan Eichhorst who averages 17.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per-game. Steve Artzerounian follows with 13.9 points and 6.3 rebounds. Senior forward Jeff Slanovec tallied 9.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, and has hit on 41 three-pointers. Matt Greene chips in with 9.6 points and 56 treys.

After its game with Misericordia, King's will have another chance to play spoiler when the Monarchs visit cross-town rival Wilkes on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. matchup in the Marts Center.
