Monarchs Cagers Comeback Bid Falls Short, Drop 70-66 Decision to Delaware Valley

Matt Fiorino drained six 3-pointers, but it wasn't enough as the King's College men's basketball team dropped its seventh straight game 70-66 against Delaware Valley Wednesday night at Scandlon Gymnasium.
With 11:40 to play in the game Jeremy Beckett hit a layup and completed the old-fashioned three-point play to put the Aggies up 50-36. King's answered with treys on five of their next six possessions including four in a row by Fiorino to spark a 19-4 run to take its first lead of the game 55-54.
Fiorino drained a triple with 2:00 to play to put the Monarchs on top 63-62, but Delaware Valley got a layup from Beckett and then shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line to hold off the Monarchs charge.
The Aggies came out of the gates strong scoring the first nine points and built the lead out to 17-6 on a 3-pointer by Nate Bollinger at the 12:51 mark in the first half. The Monarchs answered with a 19-8 run to knot the score at 25 with just 1:15 to play in the half, but the Aggies got a pair of buckets to close the half and take a 29-25 lead to the locker room.
The second half started much like the first with Delaware Valley going on a 20-11 spurt behind seven points from the conference leading scorer Nathan Bollinger to take a 49-36 lead with 12:25 on the clock. King's then began its comeback which ultimately fell just short despite Fiorino's long-range theatrics..
The Monarchs offense was led by 18 points from Fiorino on 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Freshman guard
Mike Foster also found his stroke from long range going 4-of-7 from long range on his way to 13 points. He also pulled down three rebounds. Senior guard
Nick Reisig also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points, five assists and four boards.
Daulton Derr paced the Delaware Valley offense with a game-high 24 points. Bollinger added 19 points, four rebounds and three helpers. Beckett turned in a double double tallying 17 points and grabbing 17 boards on 7-of-12 shooting.
The Monarchs finish up their home slate on Saturday when they host conference foe Manhattanville at 3:00 p.m. at Scandlon Gymnasium. They will also be hosting their alumni game at 10:00 a.m.
