WILLIAMSPORT -- The King's College softball team improved to 13-5 as the Lady Monarchs posted a doubleheader sweep of host Lycoming College Thursday in Williamsport. King's won the first game 8-2 before capturing the nightcap 4-2 in a game called in the sixth due to darkness.

King's took a 4-0 lead in the second inning when Rebecca Taylor walked and moved to third on a double by Rachel Zinni. After Erin Beane walked and stole second, Amanda Cardone stroked a two-run single up the middle for the fourth run of the inning.
In the third inning, Harnischfeger and Bean both singled. Harnischfeger would then score on an error as Beane advanced to third where she would later score on a passed ball.

In the fourth inning, Rebecca Taylor reached on a fielder's choice before Rachel Zinni smacked a two-run home run for King's final runs of the game.

Zinni led the King's attack by going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, a home run and double. Harnischfeger was 3-for-4 with two runs and a double. In the nightcap, Lycoming broke open a scoreless game in the fourth with two runs. King's immediately answered with four runs in the fifth. The Lady Monarchs capitalized on two Lycoming errors and used RBI singles from Cardone and Nicolette Pizzo, a run-scoring infielder ground out by Kaitlin Siegfried, and a fourth RBI following a bases loaded grounder off the bat of Rebecca Taylor.

King's added a run in the sixth when Bayne drilled a opposite field solo home run over the left field fence. After Lycoming scored a run in the bottom of the inning to cut the score to 5-3, the game was called due to darkness with two outs. Officially, all runs in both halves of the sixth inning were disallowed, as the final score reverted to 4-2, the score after five complete innings.
