KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH DAKOTA STATE IN SEASON-OPENER
MYRTLE BEACH -- The defending Freedom Conference champion King's College softball team opened the 2012 season Sunday with a double-header split with Dakota State University of South Dakota in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Dakota State won the first game 4-3 before King's
came back to take the nightcap 10-8.

In the opener, Brittny
Baynes led the Lady Monarchs by going 2-for-4 with a triple, run, and RBI. Katlin Siegfried was also 2-for-4 with an RBI. Starting pitcher Annie Erndl took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, in four innings with three strikeouts. Karissa Kross pitched two innings of relief, striking out two batters

In the second game, Baynes
went 3-for-4 with five RBI, including a double, and home run. Rachel Zinni was 3-for-4 with two runs while Tina Seber finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a home run. Allison Herbert picked up the win in relief, pitching six innings and allowing six hits while allowing one earned run.

King's will play a doubleheader Monday against Penn State Harrisburg beginning at 9:30 a.m.
