King's Softball Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader with Keystone
Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- The King's College softball earned a doubleheader split Monday afternoon with a 9-1 victory in game one and a 6-5 loss in the second game.
In the opener King's was clinging to a 2-1 lead going to the bottom of the fourth when King's plated five runs to blow the game open. The Lady Monarchs pushed a pair of runs across in the fifth to envoke the eight run rule.
Jenn Harnischfeger led the Monarch offense going 2-for-4 with a three runs scored and one RBI.
Brittny Baynes was also 2-for-4.
Tina Seber chipped in a pair of runs to while going 2-for-3.
Abby Cohen was 2-for-2 with the lone RBI for Keystone in game one. Kaitlyn Sawicki and Jessica Weingart each collected hits for the Giants.
Allison Herbert picked up the win in the circle for King's and improved to 4-0 on the season. Karrissa Wobobey took the loss and fell to 5-5.
The Lady Monarchs held a 5-3 lead after four innings in game two, but Keystone scored three runs in the fifth keyed by a pair of King's errors to set the final.
Amanda Cardone was 3-for-4 in the second contest with a pair of RBIs and a run scored to lead the way for King's. Harnischfeger was also 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Keystone was paced by Lisa Ostrander who was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored. Stephanie Puckett finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Sara Schraden got the complete game win striking out six and walking three while
Karissa Kross took her first loss of the season and is now 5-1 pitching 1 1/3 innings of relief.
The Lady Monarchs host Ithaca on Thursday in another non-conference tilt at the Betzler Athletic Complex at 3:00 p.m.
