King's Softball Drops Doubleheader to Ithaca

Wilkes-Barre, Pa.-- The King's College softball team dropped a pair of games to traditional power Ithaca Thursday afternoon at Betzler Athletic Complex.

The Bombers (18-11) took the first game 4-0 and scored a 9-0 win in the second contest. King's fell to 24-8 on the season.

Ithaca scored three times in the second inning and tacked on an insurance run in the fifth to set the final. Julianne Vincent and Lindsey Johnson each collected two hits and an RBI.

In the opener Jenn Harnischfeger, Brittny Baynes and Kaitlin Siegfried each picked up a hit for King's. Karissa Kross took the loss in the circle and is now 5-2 on the year.

In game two the Bombers struck for three runs in the first and tacked on five more runs in the third keyed by back to back triples by Molly O'Donnell and Sydney Folk.

Erin Beane picked up two hits in the second game with doubles in the first and fourth. Rebecca Taylor also added a double in the fifth inning.  Brittany Haight took the loss going 2 2/3 innings with three strikeouts.

The Lady Monarchs are back in action on Saturday when they host Misericordia between two of the top teams in the Freedom Conference. Entering the weekend, Misericordia stands tied for first in the conference at 6-2 while King's is third at 5-3.

The first game of the doubleheader starts at 1:00 p.m. in the Betzler Complex.
