KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH MISERICORDIA

WILKES-BARRE -- In a battle of two of the top team in the Freedom Conference, the host King's College softball team battled to a doubleheader split with Misericordia University.

Misericordia rallied to win the first game 3-2 while King's took the nightcap 5-3.

With the split King's stands at 25-9 and 8-4 in the Freedom Conference while Misericordia
is 23-13 and 9-3 in league play.


In the opener, King's took a 2-0 first inning lead when Jenn Harnischfeger doubled and Amanda Cardone belted a two-run home run.

The Cougars rallied with a run in the fourth on a RBI single by Sam Hare. In the fifth, Kristi Seiler tied the game at 2-2 with a solo home run before Amanda Polaha
drove in the game-winning run in the sixth with a RBI single.

Cardone
led King's by going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Polaha was 2-for-3 to pace the Cougars

Cait
Cromley (14-7) was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out three batters. Karissa Kross (5-3) took the loss for King's, yielding three runs on eight hits while striking out five.

In the nightcap, King's took a 3-0 first inning lead on the strength
of a bases-loaded walk to Kaitlin Siegfried and a two-run single from Kayla Rutkoski.

The Lady Monarchs added a run in the third when Rutkoski
reached base on a fielder's choice before scoring on a double by Rebecca Taylor.

King's pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fifth when Siegfried
doubled and scored on a RBI single by Taylor.

Misericordia cut the lead to 5-1 in the sixth on a solo
home run by Cromley. The Cougars used a solo home run by Hare and a RBI single from Melissa Spinden. With two out and the bases loaded, King's Brittany Haight entered the game to pitch and retired the final batter to register her second save of the year.

Taylor was 2-for-3 with two RBI for King's
while Harnischfeger was 2-for-4.Annie ERndlwas the winner for King's, allowing three runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts in six and two-third innings.

Cromely and Kat LaBrie were both 2-for-4 for the Cougars. Jess Armillay was the losing pitcher,allowing five runs on seven hits with one strikeouts.

King's eturns to action Tuesday when the Lady Monarchs travel to face SUNY Oneonta on Tuesday.
