KING'S SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH ONEONTA

ONEONTA, NY -- The King's College softball team closed out its non-conference schedule with a doubleheader split with host Oneonta State University Wednesday in Oneonta, NY. King's (26-10) won the first game 5-2 before falling in the nightcap 6-2.

In the opener, Oneonta scored the first run of the game in third inning on an unearned run. King's answered with a three-run fourth when Amanda Cardone and Brittny Baynes led off with back-to-back singles. A pair of Oneonta errors brought home Cardone and Rebecca Taylor delivered a two-run single to give King's a 3-1 lead.

The Lady Monarchs added a run in the fifth inning when Erin Beane singled and later scored from second on a base hit by Baynes. King's tacked on another run in the sixth when Tina Seber walked, and eventually scored from second on a double from Rachel Zinni as the Lady Monarch lead grew to 5-1. The Red Dragons added a sixth inning run to bring the final score to 5-2.

Brittany Haight was the winning pitcher for King's tossing a complete-game four-hitter with six strikeouts. Baynes was the lone multi-hit player for King's with two base hits while Rebecca Taylor drove in two runs.

In the nightcap
King's took a 1-0 first inning lead when Jen Harnischfeger walked and later scored from third on an illegal
pitch. But the Lady Monarchs were held to one hit through the first five innings and fell behind 4-1 as two errors contributed to three unearned runs.

Monarchs closed the gap to 4-2 in the sixth when Tina Seber singled and pinch runner Kayla Rutkoski scored on a single by Rachel Zinni. The Red Dragons, however, countered with two in the bottom of the fame to close out the scoring.

King's was held to just four hits in the game, all singles by Erin Beane
Seber, Nicolette Pizzo and Zinni. Zinni also added a RBI.

The Lady Monarchs return to Freedom Conference play Saturday when the King's closes out league play with a home 1:00 p.m. doubleheader against FDU
-Florham.
