KING'S SOFTBALL CLOSING OUT FREEDOM SLATE WITH HOME DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST FDU

WILKES-BARRE — The playoff-bound King's College softball team will close out its 2012 Freedom Conference schedule on Saturday when the Lady Monarchs play host to FDU-Florham in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

The Lady Monarchs, who are in search of their 11th Freedom Conference title in 13 years, enter the twin bill with a 26-10 overall record and are in third place in league with an 8-4 mark.  FDU, meanwhile, stands at 13-16 overall and 4-8 in league competition.  Kings trails Manhattanville and Misericordia who are tied for first with identical 9-3 conference records.

King's is led by sophomore catcher Amanda Cardone who is batting .391 (45-115) with 11 doubles, six home runs, and 46 RBI. Junior second-baseman Kayla Rutkoski follows at .385 (37-96) with six doubles and 18 RBI. Senior outfielder Rachel Zinni stands at .352 (32-91) with seven doubles, three home runs, and 21 RBI. Sophomore shortstop Jenn Harnischfeger contributes with a .351 (34-97) average with eight doubles and 16 RBI. Junior designated player Brittny Baynes chips in with a .348 (39-112) mark with eight doubles, two home runs, and 29 RBI.

In the circle, Brittany Haight is 7-3 with a 2.53 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 59 innings. Sophomore Karissa Kross stands at 5-3 with a 2.50 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 50. Junior Annie Erndl is 6-4 with a 2.56 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 57 innings.

FDI is paced by Brittni Wurst with a .381 (37-97) average, including21 runs and four RBI. Senior pitcher Megan McInaw bats .341 (29-85) with eight doubles and 22 RBI. As a pitcher, McInaw is 6-8 with a 2.92 ERA with 112 strikeouts in 105 innings.  Megan Golembiewski is hitting .341 (31-29) with 12 doubles, two home runs, and 20 RBI.

King's will close out its regular-season on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. when the Lady Monarchs face the University of Scranton in the Jessup Youth Softball Complex.
