King's Softball Improves to 17-5 with Sweep of Baptist Bible

KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS BAPTIST BIBLE COLLEGE
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team improved its season record to 17-5 as the Lady Monarchs posted a doubleheader sweep of visiting Baptist Bible College Tuesday in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

King's won the frst
game 8-4 before taking the nightcap 15-4 in five innings.

In the opener, King's took a 4-0 lead in the second inning when Kayla Rutkoski
and Rebecca Taylor singled and Tina Seber drew a walk to load the bases. Rachel Zinni then delivered a RBI single, Jenn Harnischfeger lofted a sacrifice fly to centerfield, and Erin Bean stroked a two-run single up the middle.

Baptist Bible responded in the top of the third when Kaycee
Rava belted a three-run home run to trim the Lady Monarchs lead to 4-3.

But King's
countered with a run in the bottom of the fourth when Rutkoski doubled and scored off a RBI single by Taylor to push the score to 5-3.

The Lady Monarchs put the game away with
three runs in the sixth when Zinni walked and moved to second on a Harnischfeger bunt. Amanda Cardone came through with a run-scoring single before Brittny Baynes doubled, advancing Cardone to third. Kaitlin Siegfried followed with a two-run single to centerfield to give King's a 8-3 lead.

Taylor led King's
with a 3-for-3 showing while Rutkoski was 2-for-4 with two runs. Beane went 2-for-3 with two RBI while Zinni was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Allison Herbert picked up the pitching victory for King's, allowing four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts.

In the nightcap King's exploded for eight runs in the first inning. The Lady Monarchs took advantage of five walks and used RBI singles by Baynes
, Nicolette PizzoHarnischfeger, and Beane to build the early lead.

The lady Monarchs added four more runs in the third on the strength of a two-run single by Taylor, and a run-scoring single from Baynes
. King's pushed across three runs in the fourth when Anna Mae Olivo, Sarah Martin, and Karissa Kross each singled and Baynes ripped a three-run double to left center to push the score to 15-4. The Defenders scored all four runs in the fifth before the game was halted due to the eight run rule.

Robyn Klingerman
was the winning pitcher, improving to 4-0 after allowing four runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Baynes was 2-for-3 with two runs and five RBI. Beane went 2-for-3 while Harnischfeger finished 1-for-3, drew two walks, and scored three runs.

King's will next host DeSales
University in an important Freedom Conference doubleheader Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in the Betzler Complex.
