King's Softball Splits Doubleheader with Scranton in Regular Season Finale
Jessup, Pa.-- The King's College softball team used three runs in the seventh inning to salvage a doubleheader split with host Scranton Tuesday afternoon in the final regular season tune up before the Freedom Conference tournament.
The Lady Monarchs (29-11) rally lifted them to a 4-1 win the second game while the Royals (26-8) claimed a six-inning 8-0 vicotry in the opener.
With the score tied 1-1 in the top of the seventh King's got a lead off single from
Erin Beane. Three straight fielders choices plated Beane and left
Brittny Baynes and Kaitlyn Siegfried on second and third.
Kayla Rutkoski drove both runners home with a one-out double to push the lead to 4-1.
Rutkoski collected three hits with a run scored and two RBIs. Beane was a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
Annie Erndl picked up the win going seven innings, allowing six hits, striking out and walking three. Christine Capalbo took the loss for Scranton allowing four runs on 10 hits.
In the opener Catherine Galvin pitched six shutout innings for Scranton allowing just three hits striking out seven and walking five to pick up the win.
Amanda Cardone picked up a double in the third, but was erased on a double play to end the inning. Rutkoski and
Jenn Harnischfeger each collected hits for King's. The Royals jumped out to a lead with a three-run third.
Scranton tacked on a run in the fourth on a home run by Kelly Zaccheo and two runs in the fifth. The eight-run rule came into effect in the bottom of the sixth when Caitlin McHenry blasted a two-run homer.
The Lady Monarchs open the Freedom Conference tournament on Friday at Manhattanville when they take on Misericordia at 1:00 p.m.
