KING'S FIELD HOCKEY DROPS 3-2 DECISION TO JUNIATA

DALLAS -- The King's College field hockey team was unable to overcome a 2-0 second-half deficit as the Lady Monarchs dropped a 3-2 verdict to Juniata College on the final day of the Misericordia University Invitational Saturday in Dallas.

King's slipped to 2-1 after the defeat while Juniata improved to 3-1, going 2-0 at the event.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead at the half thanks to a goal by Sara Bilheimer at the 17:16 mark. Juniata pushed the lead to 2-0 when Allison Groft scored at 37:05.

King's countered when Kim Howanitz converted a pass from Jackie Sikora to cut the lead to 2-1 at 53:07 but the Eagles responded seven minutes later on a goal by Emma Dahmus at 60:06 to push the lead to 3-1.

The Lady Monarchs cut the lead to 3-2 with 0:38 remaining on an unassisted goal by Alyssa Monaghan but it wasn't enough as Juniata held on for the victory.

Statistically, both teams had 15 shots while Juniata registered a 14-8 advantage in penalty corners. Dahmus and Bilheimer led Juniata with one goal and one assist apiece. King's goalie Megan Withrow made six saves, as did Eagle keeper Janelle Howard.
