King's Men's Basketball Scores 83-47 Win Over Marywood on Day Two of Cross County Challenge
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – The King's College men's basketball team snapped a four-game losing skid by knocking off Marywood 83-47 on the second day of the Cross County Challenge at the Marts Center at Wilkes University.
The teams traded baskets early with the Pacers gaining a 5-4 advantage just three minutes into the game. King's answered with 17-7 run capped by a 3-pointer by
Mike Foster to give the Monarchs a 21-12 lead they never gave back.
King's took a 35-18 advantage into the half and came out of the break strong, opening the second frame on a 24-11 run to push the lead to 57-29 at 10:51 on a layup by
Kyle Hammonds. The lead was never closer than 27 the rest of the way.
Joe Caffrey led five Monarchs in double figures with a career-high 15 points. Caffrey also set a career-high with eight assists. Foster also scored a career-best with 14 points including going 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Keyton Winder notched 13 points and five boards.
Matt Fiorino chipped in 11 points and five rebounds as well as two helpers and two steals.
Kyle Hammonds added 11 points and was named to the All-Tournament team after scoring 23 on Wednesday.
Marywood was led by 18 points from Kendall Harris. Harris also grabbed a team-high eight boards. Matt Tintle and Andrew Andrle each scored six points.
With the win head coach J.P. Andrejko became the second-winningest coach in King's College history with 191, passing Ken Atkins who had 190 wins from 1984-96. Andrejko is just 10 wins shy of tying Ed Donohue for the top spot on the Monarchs win list. Donohue posted 201 victories from 1969-83.
The Monarchs are back in action on Wednesday when they host DeSales University in Freedom Conference action. The game tips-off at 8:00 p.m. at Scandlon Gymnasium.
