King's Scores Key Freedom Conference Victory Over Eastern
Wilkes-Barre, Pa. -- The King's College women's soccer team earned a key 2-0 victory over Eastern for the Lady Monarchs first win over the Eagles since Eastern joined the Freedom Conference in 2008.
Ivy Nulton got the Lady Monarchs on the board just 8:48 into the contest when she took a through pass from Lindsay Humanik and put a low shot past a diving keeper. The Lady Monarch defense held the Eastern offense to just three first half shots to take a 1-0 lead into the half.
King's netted an insurance tally in the 74th minute.
Erin Laird bodied in a
Sarah Borajkiewicz corner kick to set the final at 2-0.
The Lady Monarchs controlled the flow of play, out shooting the Eagles 12-8 while also holding an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
King's keeper
Jessica Natale made three saves on her way to her sixth shutout of the season. Elayna Simpson took the loss for Eastern making four saves.
With the win the Lady Monarchs control their own destiny for a playoff spot. A win over DeSales next Saturday earns King's the three-seed in the Freedom Conference tournament.
The Lady Monarchs improved to 8-7-1 overall and 3-3 in Freedom Conference play while Eastern falls to 4-10-2, 2-3-1 in league play. King's is back in action next Saturday when they host DeSales at 4:00 p.m.
