King's Women's Soccer Uses Penalty Kicks to Outlast Wilkes and Advance to Freedom Conference Title Game

Edwardsville, Pa. – Raquel Molina netted the game-deciding penalty kick as King's advanced to the Freedom Conference championship game, outlasting Wilkes 3-2 in penalty kicks in a 1-1 tie Tuesday afternoon at Ralston Field.

Ivy Nulton gave King's a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute when Erin Laird sprung her for a breakaway down the right side. Nulton put a low shot to the far post for the finish.

The Lady Monarchs looked destined to win the game in regulation, but Dianna Connor one-timed a cross over the keeper just before time expired to tie the game 1-1 and send the game into overtime.

The teams traded chances late in the first overtime with Nulton bouncing a ball off the crossbar and King's keeper Jessica Natale making a full extension save just before time expired.

In addition to Molina, Sarah Borajkiewicz and Michelle Spataro converted on penalty kick attempts. Haley Adams and Jess Benjamin were successful for the Colonels.

Natale made seven saves in regulation and overtime, including two spectacular leaping saves in extra time, and then three more in the
shootout. Kristy Colangelo made one save for Wilkes.

The Lady Monarchs advanced despite being outshot 28-4. Wilkes also held a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.

King's advances to face the winner of the Misericordia FDU-Florham matchup at the site of the highest remaining seed on Saturday at a time to be determined.
