SECOND HALF DOOMS KING'S MEN IN 73-52 LOSS AT DEL-VAL

DOYLESTOWN -- The host Delaware Valley College men's basketball team broke open a four-point lead at the half by outscoring King's College 39-22 over the final 20 minutes of play as the Monarchs suffered a 73-52 Freedom Conference loss Wednesday night in Doylestown.

With the loss, King's fell to 9-13 overall and 4-7 in Freedom Conference play. The Aggies, meanwhile, improved to 15-7 and 9-2 and remain tied for first-place in the Freedom Conference with DeSales. King's loss left the Monarchs in fifth-place in the battle for four league playoff berths. The Monarchs caught a break as fourth-place FDU lost 60-42 at Wilkes to remain just one game ahead of King's.

The first half was an evenly played affair as the Monarchs trailed 34-30 at the break. King's shot 46.2 (12-26) percent from the field while the Aggies made 50.0 (13-26) percent of its shots. The second half was a different story as the Monarchs struggled from the floor, making just 30 (9-30) percent of its shots while Delaware Valley remained hot, again hitting on 50.0 (15-30) percent of its field goals over the final frame.

Joe Caffrey led King's with 13 points and five rebounds while Ian Oakley had 10 points, seven boards, and three assists. Kyle Hammonds tallied seven points while Matt Fiorino and Tom Heston contributed with six points each.

Jeremy Beckett led the Aggies with 15 points and 12 rebounds while Francis Arnold tallied 14 points and six assists. Daulton Derr chipped in with 12 points and three assists.


The Monarchs return to the road Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. matchup against Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.
