PURCHASE, NY -- The host Manhattanville College men's basketball team overcame a four pont second half deficit by outscoring visiting King's College 43-34 over the final 20 minutes of play as the Valiants posted a 67-61 victory Saturday night in Purchase, NY.

With the loss King's
falls to 9-14 overall and 4-8 in Freedom Conference play. Manhattanville improved to 10-13 and 4-8 in league games

After the start of the game was delayed 45 minutes due to a malfunction of the game clock and shot clock, both teams started out slowly as the game was tied 6-6 after nearly nine minutes of play. The Valiants later built a 21-14 lead after a pair of foul shots by Craig Augustine with 5:35 on the clock.

The Monarchs finally caught fire and ended the half with a 13-4 run thanks to six points from Connor Hughes and five by Tom Heston to take a 27-24 lead into the break. Hughes finished the first half with 12 points to pace the Monarchs.

In the second half Manhattanville slowly chipped away and tied the score at 33-33 on an Andrew Winter bucket with 15:30 left.

The Valiants later took a 37-36 advantage with 13:39 remaining on a Jack Bramswig bucket. With King's still trailing by one points at 45-44 with 7:45 on the clock, Manhattanville used a three-pointer by Anthony Maestre and a dunk from Bramswig to go ahead 50-44.

The Valiants
then upped the lead to 58-48 after another bucket by Bramswig with 3:37 to play. King's used a Keyton Winder basket and two free throws from Heston to close to within 58-52 with 2:47 to play, but Bramswig scored four more points to give Manhattanville a 62-54 advantage with 1:41 on the clock.

The Monarchs failed to cut into the lead with a pair of missed free throws with 1:23 remaining, then failed to convert on a subsequent steal at the 0:46 mark.

From there King's was forced to foul and Colin Campbell put the game away with two free throws, bringing the sore to 64-54 with 0:45 to go.

Hughes led King's
with a career-high 18 points and six rebounds while Heston added 12 points and seven boards.

Bramswig and Maestre topped the Valiants with 15 points each.

King's returns to action Tuesday with an 8:00 p.m. home contest against Misericordia
