King's Softball Closes Out Spring Trip 7-1 After Sweeping a Pair of Games in Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach, SC -- The King's College softball team finished their spring trip to Myrtle Beach with a pair of wins over Penn State Harrisburg and Cabrini on a very windy Wednesday morning.

In the opener King's mercy ruled Penn State Harrisburg 15-0. King's got on the board in the bottom of the second with a two run homer from Maggie Gola. The Lady Monarchs tallied four more in the third with Gola driving in three more with a double to left field. Gola came around to score on an error by the second baseman on a soft liner by Brianne Penrose to put King's up 6-0.

King's sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth taking advantage of four Nittany Lion errors to put up an eight spot. Tina Seber knocked a two run jack in the fourth for King's.

In the second game King's held off a late charge by Cabrini to earn a 4-2 victory in the trip finale. King's got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jenn Harnischfeger led off the inning with a single and then stole second base. Erin Beane followed with single through the left side and moved to second on defensive indifference. Amanda Cardone plated Harnischfeger and Beane with a double to the left center field gap and then came around to score when a Gola fly ball was misplayed by the center fielder to put the Lady Monarchs up 3-0.

The Cavilers got one run back  on a solo blast by Becca Miles. King's pushed the lead back to three runs, 4-1,in the sixth after Gola drew a lead-off walk and moved to third on a bunt by Amy Kowalczyk and a ground out by Shelby Eby. Katie Kowalski drove home Gola with a single.

Cabrini threatened in the seventh putting runners on first and second with one out after a Missy Miller walk and Jennifer Ciambriello single. Lindsay Atzert grounded into a fielder choice leaving runners on first and second with two outs. Molly McDougal drove a single to right scoring Ciambriello and putting runners on the corners. King's starter Annie Erndl went the distance getting a ground out off the bat of Kaitlyn Cooper to end the game.

Kowalski finished the day going 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI as well as a pair of stolen bases. Gola went 2-for-4 with five RBI and four runs scored. Cardone crossed the plate three times and drove home three more while going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Robyn Klingerman scored the win against Penn State Harrisburg, going five innings allowing three hits with one strikeout and one walk. Erndl went the full seven against Cabrini, giving up two runs, both earned, on six hits with four strikeouts and three free passes.

After going 7-1 on the trip head coach Lisa Gigiello now has 495 career wins. The Lady Monarchs are back in action on Tuesday when they host Lycoming on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Betzler Athletic Complex.
