King's Softball Sweeps Manhattanville, Clinches 14th Straight Conference Playoff Berth

KING'S SOFTBALL SWEEPS MANHATTANVILLE TO CLINCH FREEDOM PLAYOFF BERTH

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College softball team clinched a Freedom Conference playoff berth as the Lady Monarchs posted a doubleheader Sweep of visiting Manhattanville College Saturday in the Betzler Athletic Complex.

The Lady Monarchs won the first game 4-3 before taking the nightcap 13-5 in five innings. It marks the 14th straight year King's has qualified for the conference playoffs. The Lady Monarchs have been in the post-season every year since the 2000 campaign.

With the win, King's improved to 21-3 overall and 9-1 in Freedom Conference play while Manhattanville fell to 14-14 and 5-5 in league competition.
In the opener, Tina Seber had a RBI double and scored a run while Kalya Rutkoski drove in another run. Jenn Harnischfeger, Erin Beane, and Katie Kowalski all scored runs while Amanda Cardone and Kowalski added base hits. Karissa Kross was the winning pitcher for King's.

In the nightcap King's exploded for six runs in the first innings, three in the third and four more in the fourth to build a 13-3 lead in a game halted after five inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Maggie Gola was 3-for-3 with four RBI, including a run-scoring double in the second inning and a three-run home run in the fourth. Seber was 3-for-3 with two runs and a RBI while Cardone went 2-for-3 with a RBI double and scored three runs. Kowalski was 1-for-3 with a three-run triple in the first inning. Harnischfeger also chipped in with one hit and one run.

Annie Erndl picked up the pitching win, allowing five runs in three innings. Rachel Linso was solid in relief, allowing two hits in two innings with three strikeouts. In the fourth inning Manhattanville had the bases loaded with no one out and Linso entered the game to strike out the side.
King's returns to action Wednesday with a doubleheader at Ithaca College.
