DALLAS -- The King's College women's tennis team took a big step towards securing a Freedom Conference Tournament berth as the Lady Monarchs posted a hard-fought 5-4 victory over league rival Misericordia University Monday in Dallas.
With the win, King's improved to 4-7 overall but are 3-0 in Freedom Conference play and is in second place with three league matches remaining. Misericordia, meanwhile, slipped to 9-7 and 2-2.
King's jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles as Emily Biffen and Liz Demko posted a 8-3 win in the second flight. The big results came at number-three double when Katie Rossowski and Nicole Molino went to a tiebreaker to eek out a 9-8 (7-4) triumph.
In singles, King's wrapped up the match by winning three-of-six contests. At number-one singles, Sara Lynn was a 6-2, 6-1 victory while Madeline Griffin won 6-1, 6-3 in the second flight. In the number-six singles contest, Nicole Molino tallied a 6-4, 6-3 win as the Lady Monarchs walked away with the win.
King's returns to the court Tuesday when the Lady Monarchs host unbeaten (4-0) and defending Freedom champion Wilkes at 3:30 p.m. at Kirby Park.
