KING'S WOMEN'S TENNIS HOSTING MISERICORDIA WEDNESDAY IN FREEDOM CONFERENCE TOURNEY SEMI-FINALS
WILKES-BARRE — The second-seeded King's College women's tennis team will open up 2013 Freedom Conference Tournament play with a home semi-final matchup against local rival Misericordia University Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Kirby Park.
King's enters the contest with a 6-8 overall record and is 5-1 in the Freedom Conference. The Lady Monarchs played a difficult early-seaosn schedule in the fall and also during their spring break trip to Florida where the team stood at 0-6 on March 7. But the strong competition paid off as thee Lady Monarchs went 6-2 the rest of the way.
Misericordia, meanwhile, is 14-8 and 4-2 in league play. The teams met on April 15 with KIng's posting a 5-4 victory at Misericordia. It will mark the fourth straight year the teams have squared off in the conference tournament semi-finals with Misericordia wining each meeting.
King's line-up will consist of sophomore Sarah Lynn (6-10) holding down the number-one spot for King's. She will be joined by freshman
Madeline Griffin (9-7), junior
Emily Biffen (6-6), senior
Liz Demko (2-12), Katie Rossowski (3-9), and
Nicole Molino (8-6).
In doubles, King's will enter Lynn and Griffin (7-9) in the first flight, followed by Biffen and Demko (5-4) as well as Rossowski and Molino (5-1).
The Cougars will enter Michelle Cameron (13-8) in the number-one singles slot. She will be joined by Cassie Foy (14-5), Breanne Phillips (16-4), Emily Boro (15-7), Emily Gherghel (5-1), and Emily Hullings (4-13).
Misericordia's doubles teams will include Cameron and Foy (0-0), Phillips and Gherghel (0-0), along with Hullings and Boro (1-2).
The winner of the King's-Misericoria matchup will then face the winner of the other conference semi-final matchup between top-seeded Wilkes and fourth-seeded Arcadia on Saturday at a time to be announce at the site of the highest remaining seed.
